High-quality commercial photography that showcases services

Customers today can see through stock photography of models fake laughing in plush offices. And my business clients are becoming increasingly aware of this. A predominant theme I’m seeing in commercial photography in the service sector is the priority placed on authenticity – real workplace locations and real people doing their real jobs.
When Churchill Group commissioned me to capture imagery to promote the diversity of its business services, they invited me into a selection of their working environments to photograph their employees.
Churchill Group offer a range of facilities management and business services designed to enhance the day-to-day experience of the employees and guests of their clients. Services include security, property maintenance, helpdesks, events, receptionists, catering, customer services and concierge support.
The Photography brief
We selected five shoot locations to show the full range of services on offer to clients: Millennium Point Birmingham, offices in Shoreditch, Soho and Clerkenwell, and Eden Pearl House serviced retirement apartments in Newbury.

Commercial photography with character
The Churchill Group’s brand is characterised by its people and the energy they bring to the working environments they support. Static headshots and overly posed portrait photography with zero chemistry is not what the business is about. The images needed to feel dynamic and have an inherently welcoming feel. This was about warm smiles, relaxed poses, and people discreetly getting on with their job.
The overall feel had to be polished and professional. But there was also an opportunity to inject some fun into the shoots as well – they were a fantastic group of people to work with. Think colleagues laughing together over a shared joke, a concierge carrying a bouquet of balloons and a member of the kitchen team smiling through a cloud of flour. Their openness to experimenting with more creative ideas and angles was definitely a factor in adding the character and flair that gives this imagery a sense of energy and a characterful appeal.
Capture the big picture by zoning in on the details
Churchill Group is a service sector business, so their people had to be the focal points of the photographs. But as a commercial photographer, I’m always looking for ways to use the features of a location or background to add depth, colour and context to portrait photography. From the purple lighting at Birmingham’s Millennium Point to the striking pink accents in the London offices – this collection of images shows how a commercial photographer can use a backdrop to add impact to corporate portrait photography. In addition, you’ll see how I zoom in on the details – small notes, a stack of books – to help support the client’s marketing messages.
